Privacy Policy

AviaMap is a flight-tracking app published by MainIT. We designed it to need as little of your data as possible. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with information.

The short version

Location

AviaMap uses your device's precise GPS location to display your position on the map and calculate ground speed, heading, altitude, distance remaining and estimated arrival time. This processing happens entirely on your device. Your location is not transmitted to us, stored on any server, shared, or sold.

AviaMap uses a foreground location service so tracking continues while the app is open and the screen is on. AviaMap does not request background-location access and does not track you when you are not using the app.

Information sent to our server

The only information the app may send off the device is a flight number and date that you choose to look up. This is sent to our server (aviamap.mainit.ca) solely to return that flight's airports, gate and times. We do not associate it with your identity, and we do not retain it to build a profile of you. If you enter airports manually instead, nothing is sent.

Map and book downloads

When you pre-download offline maps, the app fetches standard map tiles from OpenStreetMap servers. When you download a free book, the app fetches its text (e.g. from Project Gutenberg). These are ordinary content requests and include no personal information beyond what any app makes when downloading a file.

Data we collect

None that identifies you. No name, email, contacts, accounts, advertising ID, or analytics. Settings (units, downloaded regions, your saved flight) are stored only in the app's private storage on your device.

Permissions

Children

AviaMap is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date will change accordingly.
